What's Included in a Boiler Installation Quote?
Not all boiler installation quotes cover the same scope. Understanding what's included — and what might be charged as an extra — helps you compare quotes fairly and avoid surprises on the day.
What every quote should include
A reputable installer's fixed-price quote should include: the boiler unit itself (brand and model specified), removal and disposal of the old boiler (and cylinder if applicable), all labour for the installation, any pipework modifications required, commissioning of the new boiler, a system power flush and inhibitor treatment, a Gas Safe compliance certificate, and the Building Regulations Part J notification. If any of these are missing from a quote you've received, ask why.
System flush — why it matters
A power flush removes sludge, rust, and debris that accumulates in a central heating system over time. Installing a new boiler into a dirty system causes premature heat exchanger damage and can void the manufacturer's warranty. Some installers offer it as an optional extra; we include it as standard because skipping it causes problems down the line.
Smart controls
Smart thermostats and controls (Heatmiser, Nest, Hive, etc.) are typically quoted separately from the boiler installation itself. If you want smart controls fitted at the same time, confirm this in writing as part of the quote scope.
Building Regulations notification
All gas boiler installations must be notified to Building Control under Part J of the Building Regulations. A Gas Safe registered engineer can self-certify this work (known as a Competent Person Scheme notification), which means you don't need to apply separately. This should be included in your installation quote — if it isn't, ask about it explicitly.
